St. Bartholomew hut
Paradigma Ariadné
Plaza San Bartolomé
In cooperation with the Hungarian Embassy
The installation of Paradigma Ariadné is located next to the Church of St. Bartholomew in Logroño. This fact is the cornerstone of the architectural concept, and the basis on which the installation would be created. The story of St. Bartholomew and the tragic end of his life made us think about relation between the “body” of buildings and their surface or “skin”.
This is because on paintings and statues St. Bartholomew depicted most often without his skin, or his skin is pictured on its own, since his martyrdom was being skinned alive. Thus we designed az artefact in which the exterior of the building is emphasized, in other words its “skin”, honouring St. Batrtholomew. In the forming of the installation another phenomenon was the defining aspect, namely the information-carrying capacity of buildings. Prior to the invention of printing the buildings, and especially the walls of the churches, were the main medium through which the general public could meet the era’s most notable work of writting, the Bible. Or we could mention the Arabic culture, where to this day sacred text are used as decorative elements on building walls.
Therefore, the installation will consist of wooden frames, used in the manufacturing production of leather-based parchment, in which a leather or fabric surface will be stretched and written text will be printed on it, thus enriching the prospect of the building through readability. In this way, the surface of the building will also become as important a carrier of information as its form.
