Plaza Escuelas Trevijano
Once the projects presented had been studied and the appropriate deliberations had taken place, it was decided that the winning project would be the one named under the slogan:
UNA MESA by AAA (Alejandro Lobo, Elías Martínez Ojeda, Federico Rodríguez) from Uruguay, for the following reasons:
The project has been selected for its representative character, proposing a simple piece that enhances the existing elements in the Plaza Escuelas Trevijano. Its architecture, with an emphatic geometry, responds to the use of the pavilion as a landmark of the festival.
Its implantation in the location is relevant, proposing a unique strategy in which the tree is integrated and reread in its context.

UNA MESA by AAA (Alejandro Lobo, Elías Martínez Ojeda, Federico Rodríguez)
Project description:
From the primitive banquets celebrated in antiquity to the most sophisticated contemporary conceptualisations, passing through the modern cult as an object of design, the table has been thematised by the discipline resulting in diverse approaches.
The idea of the pavilion attempts to rescue the essence of this long journey by highlighting the value of the collective gathering in a collective space. Sitting at the table and celebrating.
It is a large table, a simple code to recognise, an elevated plane that envelops the tree in connection with the double sculpture, permanent guests.
VERSATILE
Event
A meeting that takes place on the plane. The pavilion absorbs the celebration in its entirety, highlighting an introspective moment of its conception, a look into the interior of the event.
Exhibition
The table is a support for exhibitions. The edge relationship between the observer and the observed is intensified. A dialogue is constructed between the inside and the outside, an invitation to the person who circulates the square. The circle magnetises the elements present in the square and is capable of being used spontaneously.
The installation dominates the place and reconfigures it. It intervenes in the familiar urban landscape and transforms it. It improvises an attractive pause for the everyday inhabitant.
It confesses itself as a new platform for encounters and uses, a place of coexistence, a generator of the city and community cohesion. In dialogue with the versatility of public space, the pavilion is recognised as a condenser of different possible situations.
Scenario
The plan is situated as a containing platform. The celebration for the square takes place on it. Raising the height of the public space for the presentation of an event makes its scenographic character explicit.
Communicative support
The piano is recognised as an object of communication in itself. In addition to the spatial value provided by its materialisation per se, it integrates information that broadens its spectrum of intervention.
WOODEN
The pavilion is constructed as a familiar geometric figure, the circle. Its nature expresses the absence of hierarchies, through limits formed by an infinite series of points equidistant from one known as the centre. There is a continuity in the path of its infinite edge, always synonymous with movement.
The finish of the wooden panels remains intact. Their finish evokes the natural perception of the constructive element, a manifestation of the pavilion as raw material, an artifice inserted into the public space of the city. Thus, we recognise the story that is produced in the counterpoint that reveals the insertion of a natural object in the urbanised. Constructively, the pavilion is solved by means of a wooden structural system. The panels are associated to form a regular grid circumscribed in a circumference of 11.59 m in diameter. These panels are supported on a wooden grid, with 3 x 5″ section elements, which are responsible for receiving the stresses to which the surfaces of the panels are subjected and transferring them to a system of legs of the same section.
All this set is contained by a perimeter ring that serves as a fastening element for a group of keels located in its contour and that allow to measure 1.20 mts the outer edge of the table.
Support system
An orthogonal system is defined, adjusted to the measurements of the sides of the panels. Thus, the legs are placed at the corners, obtaining a homogeneous distribution of the loads that the surfaces receive.
Structural grid
Wooden elements of 3 x 5″ section form a structural grid, responsible for receiving and transferring to the supports – legs – the stresses to which the surfaces of the panels are subjected.
Perimeter ring and keels
At 1.20 m from the outer edge of the plan, a structural ring -also made of wood- serves as an element to receive the upper grid and generate the transition with the radial keels that resolve the stresses towards the outer perimeter.
Wooden panels
38 wooden panels are used in the construction of the table. Their organisation makes it possible to make great use of the area of the panels, preserving the direction of their grain and generating a homogeneous image of their surface.

Once the projects submitted had been studied and the appropriate deliberations had taken place, they decided that the winning project would be the one named under the slogan:
El arquetipo de la casa by Collective X (Miguel Iván Hernández Cobos, Katarzyna Dominiak, Eduardo Romero García) from Mexico and Poland:
The project has been selected for its singularity and domestic character in dialogue with the landscape. Its large scale, combined with lightness in its formalisation, incorporates multiple views of the territory. This monumentality in its exterior vision gives rise to small spaces that complete the intervention and its relationship with the context in which it is located.

El arquetipo de la casa by Collective X (Miguel Iván Hernández Cobos, Katarzyna Dominiak, Eduardo Romero García)
Project description:
The “archetype of the house” as the protagonist device of the landscape.
“Until less than a century ago, the iconic form of the archetypal house, which is related to the traditional form of a house, was a form reserved for the house of man and the house of the gods. Since the end of the 20th century, this archetypal form has often been used as a design device for other types of buildings. This highlights the strong psychological links that still exist today with traditional architecture, which seek to reaffirm the identity of the individual in nature and in the community. Hence the iconic form of the house, recognised as a seven-sided polyhedron (gabled house), is reaffirmed as the universal form of architecture, as it is an archetype in the Jungian sense.
The form of the gabled house not only redefines the concept of the archetype but also redefines its surroundings by framing the landscape through the spaces between planes, generating a series of modules where the visitor can contemplate the surroundings individually or collectively. This space seeks to create a reflective and contemplative atmosphere with respect to the contact between man and nature.
An important element in the archetype of the house is the central door opening that is repeated in all the plans, continuing the dirt road that is in the designated area and creating a sense of continuity and total immersion in the natural atmosphere.
The pavilion is constructed entirely from Efficiency Poplar elements, and the panels are largely retained without any cuts, creating an efficient assembly process. The material is left pure, emphasising the unity of the structure and the natural environment in which it is placed.

Once the projects submitted had been studied and the appropriate deliberations had taken place, they decided that the winning project would be the one named under the slogan:
A la mesa! by Ander López Alberdi and Sarai Olabarrieta Morales from Spain, for the following reasons:
The project has been selected for its iconic and suggestive character that changes our usual perspective on the relationship between the street, the inner courtyard and the city.
A continuous structure that gains strength through its symbolism and versatility, integrating public and private space through its performance, it proposes to remain and refers us to the imaginary of the domestic.

A la mesa! by Ander López Alberdi and Sarai Olabarrieta Morales
Project description:
(Idea)
From the most routine day-to-day events to some of the most important moments in history have taken place at tables. At the table, people eat, study, play, debate, read, make crafts… and even sign peace treaties. A table has the power to create such powerful scenes around it as Marina Abramovic’s performance “This is by Artist”, the Last Supper or the now iconic image of the recent meeting between Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron in Moscow this February 2022.
A la mesa! aims to host all kinds of picturesque situations. The table emerges from the neighbourhood courtyard and conquers the street to attract passers-by. Situated between various urban fabrics of the city of Logroño, it aims to be the meeting point of its communities. The Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the historic centre of Logroño… now seem to gravitate around our table.
A la mesa! is conceived to fulfil several functions:
– It extends the playful space that is experienced in the neighbourhood courtyard towards Obispo Bustamante street. It creates a compression of the public space that encourages people to become part of Concéntrico.
– It invites the passer-by to enter the inner courtyard and enjoy an intimate space in the centre of the city of Logroño.
– Its organic design promotes the development of innumerable activities: popular meals, workshops, meetings, talks, performances…
A la mesa! refers to the shape of a flowing liquid. This liquid metaphorically flows from the central fountain inside the patio towards Obispo Bustamante street and invades it. The violet colour resembles the colour of the fruit of the vine, referring to the fields surrounding the city of Logroño.
(Mode of use)
We understand A la mesa! as an organism that the neighbours will conquer. We know how we design it but we don’t know how it will turn out after the days of Concentrico. The neighbours will be able to bring their chairs from home, their tablecloths, their books… all kinds of objects that will allow them to appropriate the intervention and live it.
Depending on the planned activities and the existing budget, we propose the purchase/rental of generic chairs for the celebration of events.
(Constructive information)
In order to build A la mesa!, an optimised use will be made of the wooden boards provided by Garnica, taking advantage of the discards to complete new pieces. Thus, we have made an approximate calculation and we would need 44 boards. The rest of the construction elements are also made of wood in different formats.
The details of A la mesa! respond to the same logic with which traditional tables are constructed, but adapted to the organic forms we propose. A structure formed by legs and crossbars is created on which the table top rests. All the elements are made of wood painted in a vibrant lavender that contrasts with the surrounding environment.
