The “Picos” project is a birdhouse that is part of a unit designed to create an urban ensemble. Instead of following the traditional birdhouse design with six wooden planks, the shape of a tetrahedron, using only four planks, was chosen. The opening for the birds naturally forms where the planks meet, offering a functional and aesthetic intervention that integrates into the urban space as a whole.

Chris Kabel combines a fascination for materials and natural phenomena with a sensitive and analytical approach to designing objects, furniture, and architectural elements. Sensitivity to context and finding relevant design answers prevail over trends: “The joy of ingenuity and a sensitivity to context are my main drivers.” One way or another, aesthetics always follow suit in an intuitive and poetic way. Chris Kabel (1975) graduated in 2001 from the Design Academy Eindhoven. He lives and works in Rotterdam. He works with, among others, HAY, Galerie Kreo, A1043, Droog, Fatboy, and Valerie Objects. His work is in collections such as MoMA New York, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, FNAC, and Hangaram Design Museum Seoul.
