Plaza San Bartolomé
Intervención
In the heart of Plaza de San Bartolomé, a large modular carpet made from thousands of recycled wine corks transforms the public space and celebrates local textile traditions. Inspired by Rioja’s traditional rugs, the installation reinterprets their vibrant patterns and colors to generate a new landscape — a soft, colorful surface inviting pause, gathering, and play.
The intervention highlights the reuse of materials, connecting to the winemaking identity of the region and showcasing the potential to transform waste into large-scale surfaces. The carpet unfolds as a collective tapestry — a gesture that blends craftsmanship with experimentation, engaging the city by revealing new uses for what is usually considered waste.
