Next to the site of the former Ebro beach, this installation is set on the edge defined by the concrete slab of an underused pier —traced by human hand— and the natural riverbank of the Ebro, always shifting, shaped by nature with each seasonal change. This boundary offers the opportunity to create a new habitable transition space that facilitates interaction between the river and the city.
The space will be sheltered with semi-translucent white fabrics and plywood panels, providing shade and thermal comfort during the hottest months. Finally, through its materiality —wood— the intervention invites a tactile and intuitive approach, encouraging residents and visitors to inhabit and interact with the river more closely.
Erazo Pugliese
Sebastián Erazo, architect and maker based in Paris, and Stefano Pugliese, architect and academic based in Turkey (Erazo – Pugliese), have been collaborating since 2017 through educational wood design and construction workshops along with their professional independent practices. Both started their professional practices in a similar way: designing and building furniture as a way not only to explore and express their design intentions on a small and manageable scale but also to learn from building them. This common ground brought them together and pushed them to expand their apprenticeship in furniture design and making towards larger scale, spatial, and, on some occasions, landscape artifacts that explore human interaction with the work.
