Concéntrico 08 Activities
1 – 6 September 2022

The festival activities extend the focus to new contexts: the importance of water and its consumption in urban spaces with Pool is Cool and Dallas, low-emission areas or the use of the car in the city, around the intervention of Izaskun Chinchilla. Through these three workshops, the focuses of the eighth edition will be explored in greater depth.

The cycle La Mirada de… opens a window to a conversation with the authors of the interventions: Konstantin Gcric, Matali Crasset, Associates Architecture, Piovenefabi, Tableau and Antonio Yemail will explain in detail the development of their work in dialogue with the visitors.

The exhibitions showcase the most innovative practice: Inventaires #3, a selection of projects from Wallonia-Brussels covering individual and collective housing, workspaces, social installations and public spaces in the Courtyard of the Museum of La Rioja; the Concéntrico 08 Competitions exhibition brings together the winning and finalist projects from the international calls for proposals opened at the festival.

Concéntrico also brings together local entities that work throughout the year in the city from a social, cultural and inclusive perspective. For this reason, several of the interventions of the eighth edition will be the setting for their activities during the festival.

The European Association for Architectural Education, which is moving from Madrid where it is holding its Assembly, and the CSCAE, with its monthly plenary session, are holding part of their activities in Logroño during the festival.

Escuela de Tendencias Urbanas

The School of Urban Trends will offer an open micro space for young people in the city, with the participation of youth groups that self-organise activities in public spaces throughout the year. The Urban Tendencies Schools – Enzigzag are meeting places for young people in Logroño, where skills are strengthened, creative synergies are fostered and an attitude of recognition and respect for diversity is promoted through urban culture and its different disciplines: dance, music, plastic arts, etc.

Logroño Intercultural

Logroño Intercultural proposes a parade of traditional costumes of the different cultures and origins of the people living in the city.

Logroño Intercultural is a strategy promoted by Logroño City Council with the aim of incorporating and expanding an intercultural coexistence approach to all processes, initiatives and actions of the city, as well as promoting a positive interaction between the existing diversity.

Laboratorio Feminista

Performance of the play “¡Qué circo de mujer!” at 3 Obispo Bustamante Street, in front of the Feminist Laboratory, a space created by the Department of Equality in November 2020, which aims to provide citizens with a place to reflect and acquire knowledge on gender equality. Through the performance of this innovative one-woman show of circus, theatre and music created and performed by Idoia López Callejas, the aim is to fill the streets with strength and art, with humour, fun and reflection on the gender stereotypes that still persist in our society.

AC/E Programme for the internationalisation of Spanish culture

Acción Cultural Española adds new professionals to the festival from Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Greece, Finland and Poland as part of the programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture in Concéntrico 08.

Assembly of the European Association for Architectural Education

The EAAE Annual Conference and General Assembly takes place in Madrid from 31 August to 4 September under the theme Towards a New European Bauhaus: Challenges in Design Education & Research. The conference, organised by the European Association for Architectural Education and the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Arquitectura (ETSAM) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, will move to Logroño on 3 and 4 September, where it will share a public event in collaboration with Concéntrico.

Plenary session of the Consejo Superior de Colegios de Arquitectos de España (Higher Council of Spanish Architects’ Associations)

CSCAE councillors from all over Spain are meeting in Logroño as part of the festival on 5 and 6 September to hold the plenary session of the Council in the Logroño Town Hall, where they will unveil the Docomomo Ibérico plaque in the Rafael Moneo building.
