A pavilion by Tableau Copenhagen, inspired by the classical shape of the arch of a romantic park – how it’s used and what it symbolises.
We use this shape in a modern interpretation, repetitive and exaggerated. We offer a new interpretation of a romantic garden by playing with shape, materiality and meaning. We invite people in a hybrid, parasitic type of structure that grows over the existing park, giving it a new life. We examine what a simple walk can be and what it can achieve for a person in today’s society, what is the role of flowers and plants in our lives and public spaces. We use materiality and transparency to invite people on this walk of self exploration and inner reflection by combining the core of TABLEAU: powerful, attractive flower arrangements to create instagrammable moments that are more than just that.
TABLEAU
TABLEAU is a multidisciplinary studio in Central Copenhagen, founded in March 2018 by the experienced florist Julius Værnes Iversen.
TABLEAU functions as an art gallery, design- and flower studio working with different upcoming and established designers, artists and architects, while also creating full spatial designs. The studio likes to break the lines between art and design and work with many various creative people for its projects.
When opening TABLEAU, Iversen had a dream of deconstructing the binding notions in the area of floral design, which he wanted to elevate to the level of art, and in that way make flowers a material used within the art scene, which they hadn’t really been before.
The word TABLEAU originates from Latin and means a small scene or a scenario. When the studio creates a flower installation, a small scene or a small story is created. Those small stories are all connected to the botanical world in one way or another and tries to advocate for a reassessment of the botanical world in relation to other areas of art and design. By doing so, TABLEAU is trying to make the botanical industry more respected than it has been before, so (some of) the people working in it may be seen as artists and not just floral designers or florists. The studio is a “stylistic room” for flowers, you could sort of call it a gallery for flowers. In all our work TABLEAU likes to keep a monochromatic minimalism, and use contrasts, and clean lines. Entering the studio, you will immediately feel the TABLEAU-DNA, when you are met by grey concrete walls, cold led lightening, an eye-catching blue vinyl floor and finally completed by the plants, flowers, design objects and art.
