Logomaquias: Spoken walks, a reflection in movement
Carlos Herraiz + Vanesa Peña
Cities Ahead – Paseo del Espolón – Concéntrico 09
Starting from two antagonistic experiences with regard to stuttering (the fact of having it on the part of the artist Carlos Herráiz, and the fact of not having it, on the part of the curator Vanesa Peña), the collective proposes an artistic collaboration that uses the question of chewing gum as an aesthetic from which to start a reflection on the communicative disfluencies in contemporary society. The workshops will consist of a walk through the city of Logroño where the participants will share their impressions about speech and communication, and will be protagonists in the collective construction of the intervention.
Information about the workshop:
An alternative walk through the city of Logroño is proposed whose only compass will be the collection of chewing gum stuck on the urban ground.
Participants will have the opportunity to share Carlos and Vanesa’s creative process and actively participate in the creation of the work Logomaquias.
The focus of this art walk is to offer a drift through the map not only of the city but, above all, of how we communicate in it.
Target audience:
The workshop is open to the general public, and especially focused on people with dysfluencies and disorders of communication, language, speech and/or voice.
Participation requirements:
As it is an outdoor activity it requires moving around the street either on foot, in a wheelchair or any other means that allows it.
Workshop structure:
– Ruminate Transfers. Artists will meet with participants in order to share their experience with stuttering and its link to their artistic practice as a vehicle for communication.
– Chewing on ideas. A walk around the city of Logroño will take place, in a drifting format, where the group itself will decide the course. Each participant will sonorously record the experience of their palette scratching chewing gum off the ground and collect them in a personal album.
– Blowing bubbles. Sharing of the exploration in the street. A series of questions will be posed about the issue of communication and its alternatives from the tactile and the sonorous, from the individual and the collective, in order to jointly create a possible common archive of chewing gum, both visual and sonorous.
– What the city doesn’t talk about. Joint creation of the final work that will consist of the selection of both the collected chewing gum and the recorded sounds. The aim is to create a choir from the absence of voice in order to rethink the concept of “making a choir” as a joining, an accompanying someone(s). The selection of chewing gum will be included in the physical piece itself, which will be installed on 29 April together with the participants.
Dates and time:
The workshops will take place on a day of your choice on 26 or 27 April from 18:30 to 20:30.
The public installation will take place on 29 April at 11:30.
