Cities Ahead – Paseo del Espolón – Concéntrico 09
Starting from two antagonistic experiences with regard to stuttering (the fact of having it on the part of the artist Carlos Herráiz, and the fact of not having it, on the part of the curator Vanesa Peña), the collective proposes an artistic collaboration that uses the question of chewing gum as an aesthetic from which to start a reflection on the communicative disfluencies in contemporary society. The workshops consist of a walk through the city of Logroño where the participants will share their impressions about speech and communication, protagonists in the collective construction of the intervention.
Carlos Herraiz + Vanesa Peña Alarcón
Carlos Herraiz is a multidisciplinary artist whose work focuses on experimentation with urban elements by using installations as artistic devices linked to social demands. The passage of time and issues inherent to the human condition are recurring themes in his work, from which he reflects on communicative (mis)uses of contemporary society. He structures his projects by using bottom-up methodologies in a participatory way.
Vanesa Peña Alarcón is an art curator, researcher, and cultural manager. Her practice focuses on conceptual and critical manifestations arising from contemporary art and visual culture, their interdisciplinary crossings, and theoretical approaches. With a particular interest in expanding exhibition formats by mobilising narratives and fictions in individual and collective memory, her projects explore the relationships and boundaries between perception and (de)construction to renegotiate both spaces and histories.
