De-alienating the home
Gonzalo Herrero + Pati Santos – Central Saint Martins
Pasaje Chimenea – Concéntrico 08
Since 2020, architects Gonzalo Herrero and Pati Santos have been leading the research DE-ALIENATING THE HOME through their Design Studio at Central Saint Martins in London. For this edition of Concéntrico, they will present part of this research that explores contemporary domesticity in response to questions of ecology and well-being. Their installation and performance, developed in conjunction with students from Central Saint Martins, seeks to break with the modern canons of domestic space, inviting the public to question its limits and definition, and in doing so to seek a new connection between people and the planet through these spaces. The passageway next to the former tobacco factory will be transformed into a surreal home where visitors and passers will become residents of an unexpected domestic space. A space is inhabited by unusual objects and furniture that invite people to question the function for each room, its limits, and the agency these and themselves have in their definition.
This project is supported by the British Council through the Department of Architecture, Design and Fashion; Central Saint Martins, University of Arts of London, through the Knowledge Exchange Impact Fund; and the Spanish Embassy in the United Kingdom.
